Model for a Circular-Sustainable Community

SDF believes that sustainable communities are possible if zero waste is designed into the community from its inception. The community can learn to function in a collaborative, holistic fashion and apply zero waste principles that are designed into the community infrastructure.

For example, instead of relying on centralized utilities for water, sanitation, energy and solid waste removal, the community can be designed to operate as a series of standalone, inter-connected entities. This model is similar to the pre-Industrial Revolution societies common in rural US and Europe in the 19th century. Cheap energy and industrialization spurred the development of cities and as a direct result, centralized municipal infrastructures.

SDF’s mission is to utilize modern technology to create decentralized, circular economy communities that are capable of providing services and living comforts comparable to those that we are accustomed to in our centralized, linear economy communities. This can be accomplished by utilizing several strategies, that, when combined, will yield the goals to achieve zero waste and environmental impact.

We call this new community paradigm - a ‘Circular-Sustainable Community’ (CSC). Our white paper explains in detail what this vision entails. The 13 guiding CSC principals outlined in the white paper when adhered to throughout the planning, design and construction phases will result in a sustainable utopia that mimics pre-World War 2 farm towns with modern conveniences and decentralized appropriate technologies.
